Acid attack is one of the most tragic and frightening form of violence. It is a worldwide phenomenon which is not limited to a specific location, culture or a religion. Acid attack is an extreme expression which reflects mental disorder and public psychological problems within a society. The high number of this brutal action, must be considered as a growing treatment against humanity. Weakness of law, political corruption and cultural inequalities between genders have contributed to this incident in many countries. However, many attacks are unreported and undocumented. For many people it is not a familiar topicrelated to violence. Thus, as a designer, I have putted my effort to raise awarenessand alert people about this horrible phenomenon by making a visual campaign.

This project is divided to two parts: The first part is a mixed-media artwork which tells a story about the physical and psychological effects of acid attacks in an emotional way. The combination of black and yellow represents the criminal aspect of acid attack since metaphorically this color emplacement reminds caution tapes for restricted zones. The distorted mask which is placed in the center of the board, reflects the physical damage and identity crisis of victims. The background is a typographic board which is fully covered by gauze bandage.  Through the turned areas of gauzes, viewers can read the keywords to get a quick understanding about the main effects of acid attack.

The next part is two 3D visual information works which conveys the reasons of attacks and first aid guides.  For the poster, the broken mirror was replaced by the face of the victim inviting the audience for more active engagement. The pieces of mirror engage viewers and bring them to an unpleasant situation. Simultaneously, the fragments remind them that this catastrophic damage may happen to them. The other part contains five glasses with different amount of acid to show the static of acid attacker’s motivations.

This campaign is designed to create a wave of social awareness and sensitivity among people via social media as well as printed media. The goal is to encourage people to join a NGO called “Acid Attack survivor foundation” and help them to rebuild the lives of survivors by believing in them, supporting them both psychologically and financially and providing medical treatment.
